Prime Minister Denies Qatar Sends Weapons to Syria, Says Arab Countries Have Plan B
Washington, September 25 (QNA) - Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said he believes there is a possibility for a peaceful resolution in Syria, noting that Arab countries are working on their own plan.
"You need to make safe haven areas, first of all," HE the Premier said in an interview with CNN. "That would require a no-fly zone. If the Syrians want to break that, that's another subject. We need somebody to have the teeth to tell them don't do that, because that will not be allowed."
HE the premier spoke of a Plan B for Syria that should help ease the suffering of the Syrian people, noting that support for this plan will be wider than expected.
Asked about who will participate in this plan, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said that a lot of Arab countries will participate as well as European countries.
He called on the United States government to step up its efforts after the elections period is over. "We are in an election period, so maybe this isn't a diplomatic way to say it, but I hope that after the election the American government looks at this matter in different way."
HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stressed that Qatar is not looking for military intervention in Syria, and is not sending weapons to Syrian rebels. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim, however, said that Qatar is helping the Syrian rebels in a different way by providing them with logistic and humanitarian assistance, sending medications and treating injured people.
"Money is not everything. Will is more important than the money. A lot of countries have the money. But they don't have the will," HE the premier said.
Commenting on Syrian President's Bashar al-Assad statements that Qatar is using the power of money to repeat the Libyan scenario in Syria, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said that "Qatar and the others interfere in Syria, because of Assad's failure." (QNA)
