Overwhelming Response for QOC Pages on Social Networks
Qatar- shell "and" Delta Doha "Conclude A Contract for the Maintenance of Burner
Doha, August 13 (QNA) - Delta Doha Corporation and Qatar Shell signed a new long-term service contract for "Local SGP Burner Repair" on the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
The signing was the outcome of a long journey of qualification and preparation for this type of service that used to be contracted to overseas contractors, said a press release issued here on Monday .
The contract was signed by Stephen Johnson , the Vice President for Production at Pearl GTL and Wesam Swelem, the Managing Director of Delta Doha Corporation in the presence of senior representatives from both parties.
The "SGP Burner" is a critical piece of equipment for the GTL process and hence maintaining the burners in excellent condition is a must at all time. The size and scale of these reactors meant that local provision of maintenance service was the most convenient option as long as it meet s the plant s stringent quality and safety measures.
The prequalification process started about two years ago when seven local service contractors had been examined in round one, then shortlisted to three contractors in round two. Delta Doha Corporation had met the scope s technical requirements and Qatar Shell s quality and HSE standards. The award came after a one year trial contract which helped both parties to develop a close working relationship.
Stephen Johnson said: "Qatar Shell is committed to working with local business partners and develop their competencies. This is part of our commitment to supporting the country s vision 2030. Today s signing is the outcome of several months of hard work from Delta Doha Corporation and I am looking forward to a successful business cooperation with them".

It is noted that DDC carries out three main types of activity for the oil and gas industry:
1. Manufacturing of wellhead equipment & valves: this comprises valves; in particular API 6A slab gate valves in various sizes from 2 inch to 7 inches with pressure ratings from 2000 to 15000 psi. Delta also manufactures valves under API 6D specification: ball, gate, globe, check, butterfly and plug in a wide range of types and sizes. Another key valve product is the Delta Line Pressure Operated Surface Safety Valve (DLPO), which is a self contained, surface mounted, flow line control valve operating device. Delta also offers a range of Christmas trees, both dual and single bore, which can be designed quickly and efficiently to suit customer requirements for desired integral tree block configurations. Further manufactured products offered are positive and adjustable chokes for pressure and flow rate control.
2. Servicing, repair and refurbishing of wellhead equipment and valves: Through its service subsidiary "DSERV", the company has the full capability in Doha
to refurbish all types of valves, wellhead and related oilfield products, including wireline and drilling BOPs, and SSV s such as DLPO gate valves and large pipeline ball valves and actuators.
3. Consultancy and design services: a team of highly experienced design engineers is on hand to work with clients on creating customized systems to suit individual requirements. DDC facility is approved by the American Petroleum Institute to apply the API monogram on products manufactured under Specification 6A, 6D and 16A, and 5CT. Application has been also made for certification to 7A. DDC is also accredited by API QMS Register to ISO 9001:2000.

Doha International Airport Prepares for Increase in Passenger Traffic During Eid Al Fitr
Doha, August 13 (QNA) - In anticipation of a surge in outbound passenger traffic from Doha International Airport (DIA) ahead of the end of Ramadan / Eid Al Fitr holiday period, DIA would like to advise passengers travelling between Thursday 16 August and Tuesday 21 August to be at the check-in counters at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure time.
Doha International Airport will also deploy additional staff and open more check-in counters at the departure lounges to reduce queues and ensure passengers continue to enjoy a pleasant experience at the airport.
Passengers are also encouraged to utilise the web check-in facility provided by most airlines. The web-check in service enables passengers to check-in between 24 and 48 hours prior to their scheduled flight departure time. Check-in can be done at home, office or anywhere through their mobile devices.
Doha International Airport Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said that the airport was well prepared for the expected increase in passenger traffic during the forthcoming peak holiday period.
With a premier aviation hub in Doha, he said the airport provided a convenient gateway for passengers travelling to Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa and The Americas.
Al Baker said: "The continuous growth of Qatar Airways also contributes significantly to the surge in passenger traffic at Doha International Airport. While the airport continues to set new benchmarks in passenger growth, the comfort and convenience of our passengers and operational efficiency at the airport remain our utmost priority."
The outlook for the second half of 2012 is anticipated to be very positive for Doha International Airport. From January to May 2012, passenger figures rose by 22 percent at DIA to an all time high of 8.5 million passengers compared with 7 million passengers during the same period in 2011. Aircraft movements were also high at a recorded 62,757, a rise of 17 percent compared with 53,583 during the same period in 2011.(QNA)
Aamal Posts QR102.8 Million Net Profit in First Half of 2012
Doha, August 13 (QNA) - Aamal Company on Sunday disclosed the semi annual financial statements for the period ending June 30, 2012, revealing a net profit of QR 102.8 million in comparison to QR 103.3 million for the same period last year.
The company's Earning per Share (EPS) amounted to QR 0.19 as of June 30, 2012 versus QR 0.19 for the corresponding period in 2011.
Aamal was formed on 13 January 2001. On 2nd July 2007 Aamal become a public shareholding company and was listed on the Qatar Exchange on 5th December 2007 with a paid up capital of QR 3.45 billion making it one of the largest public shareholding companies in Qatar managing several branches and subsidiaries. Qatari, Kuwaiti Charities Launch Alliance to Support Burmese Muslims
Doha, August 13 (QNA) - Qatari and Kuwaiti charities have launched an alliance to support the Burmese Muslims and coordinate efforts to provide them with urgent relief aid.
The launch of the alliance, chaired by the prominent Islamic preacher Nabil Al Awadhi, coincided with a two-day visit by a delegation representing associations and charitable organizations members in the alliance.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the conditions of new refugee camps in the region adjacent to the borders of Bangladesh with Myanmar (Burma), learnt closely about their humanitarian needs and provided emergency food aid.
The alliance includes Qatar Charity, Sheikh Eid Charity Foundation, Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services(RAF), Al Asmakh Charity and Kuwaiti Al Mabara Orphans Charity. (QNA)
Qatar Wins Bronze Award at EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea
Seoul, August 13 (QNA) - Qatar's Pavilion at Expo Yeosu 2012 in South Korea won the Bronze Prize on Matching the Pavilion theme with the theme of the Exhibition which was organized in Yeosu, South Korea and concluded its activities on Saturday.
HE Qatar's Ambassador to S Korea Ali Hamad Al-Marri expressed his happiness with the prize noting that it is the fruit of the three months of efforts, during which the Qatar Pavilion presented a range of cultural, artistic, social and economic activities that informed about the State of Qatar and its role in environmental conservation.
He said that this win is an honor, considering that it will enhance Qatar's position in global forums, help in strengthening its relations with other countries and in opening wider prospects for cooperation in addition to promoting Qatar tourism ties and attracting investment opportunities in all areas.
The Pavilion Manager Mona Al-Sulaiti received the prize in the ceremony organized by the International Bureau of Exhibitions.
She dedicated this win to HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and to HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.
Mona Al-Sulaiti noted that the number of Expo Yeosu visitors, reached 7 million, and that those of Qatar's Pavilion exceeded one million visitors.
The Deputy Spokesman for the Expo Yeosu 2012 said that many of the Korean visitors touched by the main film, run in the Pavilion, which stressed the importance of keeping the marine environment clean and pollution-free, referring to the matching of this idea, with the theme of the exhibition "the living ocean and coastal activities.".
The State of Qatar participated on Sunday in the activities of the forum of Expo Yeosu conclusion summit, which was addressed by, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Hwang-sik and the Secretary General of the International Exhibitions Bureau Vicente Gonzalez.
Qatar's began participation in the Expo Exhibition in 2005 in Nagwaa Japan, and the second participation was in Zaragoza, Spain 2008 and the third was in Shanghai, China, 2010.
The Qatar Pavilions won more than one award during these years, distinguished pavilion award, distinguished seal award, the third place on the pavilion exterior design and the Bronze Award in this year's exhibition.

Doha, August 13 (QNA) - The coverage of the pages of the QOC pages for London Olympic Games on Social Networks (Facebook and Twitter) has received an overwhelming response from participants.
On Twitter, more than 3000 followers have joined the QOC page to review the latest news of the Qatari participation in the 2012 Olympic Games. The QOC has sent more than 899 tweets about the results and activities of the Qatari athletes in the Olympics.
Moreover, The official name "QOC" was mentioned more than 3000 times during the games, especially during the Opening ceremony and when Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mutaz Barshim won their medals.
The phrase "Team Qatar" was mentioned in more than 2000 tweets and the QOC Page on Twitter was ranked 2nd trending account by BBC Arabic.
