New Year party lights up Thai-Cambodian border

SURIN, December 31 (TNA) - Thai and Cambodian border authorities have organized their first New Year party after border situations returned to normal. The party was organized near the Thai side’s Chong Jom border pass in Surin province. Presiding over the cross-border activity were Thailand’s Surin governor Niran Kalayanamitr and Suranaree Task Force chief Major General Chalit Mekmukda, as well as Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey deputy governor San Wanna and General Kaeo Tee, the commander of the 2nd Supportive Division. It was the first time that military and administrative leaders of Surin and Oddar Meanchey officially met and jointly organized an activity after Thai-Cambodian border clashes in April and May this year. The event included Thai and Cambodian cultural shows, public statements on good ties between both countries and six bouts of Thai and Cambodian boxers. A number of Thai and Cambodian people and tourists attended the event, including Thai Olympic boxing gold medalist Somjit Jongjorhor. The New Year party was aimed at boosting bilateral relations, cultural exchange and peaceful co-existence between the two sides. (TNA)
