Morsy Praises Qatar Efforts, Urges Assad to "Take Lessons from History"
Cairo, September 05 (QNA) - Egypt's President Mohamed Morsy on Wednesday praised the Qatari efforts to support the joint Arab work and achieve peace and stability in Darfur.
"The Qatari effort is appreciated, and Egypt supports all efforts to implement the Doha agreement for peace in Darfur," Morsy said as he addressed the Arab League's 138th ministerial council session.
The Egyptian president called for exerting more efforts to put an end to the tragedy in Syria within a joint Arab framework and an international support that preserves the Syrian sovereignty, stressing that there is still a chance to stop the bloodshed
Morsy said that the Syrian regime will not last for long, warning the Syrian regime not to "take the right step at the wrong time... because that would be the wrong step."
"Now is the time for change," Morsy said, warning Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime to "take lessons from recent history" in reference to the Arab spring uprisings that toppled four Arab leaders.
Morsy called on Arab diplomats to move quickly to draft a resolution that assures an end to the 17-month-long crisis that claimed the lives of more than 26,000 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"If we don't move, the world won't move with any seriousness," Morsy said. (QNA)
