Medium-term Financing Essential, African Negotiators Say
Doha, December 07 (QNA) - The African Group of Negotiators, the Group of Least Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States stressed on the importance of financing $60 billion between 2013 and 2015 to combat the effects of climate change.
Representatives from the three groups said in a press conference on the sidelines of COP18 said that the medium-term financing for combatting the impact of climate change was essential. They said that securing the required-money was the responsibility of the governments involved.
The groups said that the final moments of negotiations had put everyone at a crossroads, calling on all the parties involved to sign a host of agreements that will benefit all the parties that participated in the government. They praised that the negotiators discussed the possibility of having the private sector invest in environmentally-friendly projects, and said that there were a number of investment opportunities that would prove lucrative for any private sector.
They also called on developed countries to show a political commitment to policies that would limit the impact of climate change and Carbon emissions. (QNA)
