Kahramaa to Unveil 200-megawatt Solar Energy Project on Margins of COP18

Doha, December 02 (QNA) - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is set to unveil a 200-megawatt project to generate power from solar energy. The eight-year project is part of Kahramaa's initiative to make smart use of the vacant electricity and water infrastructure through setting up solar panels and concentrated-solar technology systems. The project will be launched tomorrow at a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing climate conference in Doha in the presence of HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry and the President of Kahramaa. The press briefing will also give details on the strategic objectives of the project as well as its implementation program. The new initiative is part of Kahramaa's plan to further sustain its power production and take its renewable energy generation to 2% of the total production in Qatar by 2020. Kahramaa was established in July 2000 to regulate and maintain the supply of electricity and water to customers. It aims to efficiently meet its obligation in to supply Qatar's needs for electricity and water, comply with local and international health, safety, and environmental standards, and maximize the employment of capable Qatari nationals, and develop them to the competence level of employees in leading international companies.
