HH Qatar’s Heir Apparent Chairs First Meeting of QOC's General Assembly

Doha, December 17 (QNA) - HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani , chaired the first meeting of the Qatar Olympic Committee's (QOC) General Assembly of the 2012-2016 Olympic Session held at the QOC's premises here on Monday. At the outset of the meeting, HH the Heir Apparent lauded in an address he delivered on the occasion, the strenuous and tireless efforts the general assembly members and the sports federations'chiefs have exerted and urged them to care for the grassroots and pay special attention to the talented for continuing achieving success and maintain the state's sports accomplishments. During the meeting, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was unanimously selected to chair the QOC for the new olympic session and preside over its executive office. In turn HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Ali Al Thani was also recommended to be the deputy chairman of the QOC and HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to be the secretary general of QOC . During the meeting the Sport Sector's Strategy (SSS) in the State of Qatar for the period (2013-2016) and which is emanated from the National Development Strategy 2011-2016 to achieve Qatar national vision 2030 and which is based on achieving the following three main results : increasing the community's participation in sport and improving the integration of the sports general and specialized facilities; increasing and improvinge the process of building and management of the sports talents. The five projects being under execution to achieve those results are as follows: 1. Participation Survey project. 2. Qatar's active campaign project. 3. Draft National Plan of sports and recreational facilities. 4. Sample project of building of path's athletes. 5. Strategic management project of coaches and technical officials. The meeting also touched on tournaments and grand sessions in which the Olympic Committee is to take part in namely: the second Islamic Solidarity to be held in Indonesia in 2013, the Second Asian Games for youth due to open in Nanjing, China in 2013, the 17th Asian Games due to open in Aenchen ,South Korea in 2014, the second Summer Olympic Games for youth due to be held in Nanjing, China in 2014, the Third Arab Games due to kick off in Beirut in 2015, and the 31st Summer Olympic Games due to open in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. A number of topics tabled on the agenda, including annual calendars of tournaments and the international calendar of local and external participations of the QOC during this session and the sport achievements achieved in the previous Olympics session (2008-2012), and the SSS in the State of Qatar were also taken up. The agenda also included the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting of the general assembly and the annual financial report. Prior to the QOC's general assembly meeting, HH the Heir Apparent and QOC chairman Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has honored player Moataz Eissa Barsham and shooter Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah for winning two bronze medals for Qatar in the 30th Summer Olympic Games held in London during the period from July 27 until August 12, 2012 and handed them certificates, Olympic pins they were granted on part of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).(QNA)
