HH the Emir Patronizes Qatar University Graduation

Doha, December 26 (QNA) - HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on Wednesday patronized the graduation ceremony of the 35th batch of Qatar University female students, at Qatar National Convention Centre. The ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellences Sheikhs and Ministers in addition to the university's teaching staff and students' parents. After a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, HE the President of Qatar University Dr. Sheikha bint Abdullah Al-Misned gave a speech on this occasion hailing the significant role of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani as the leader who is inspiring his people through his support of the peoples struggling for their fair demands. In her speech Dr. Sheikha addressed HH the Emir saying that he inspired the youth of Qatar to be influential in their surroundings and active in facing the challenges by setting the model for the man's ability to become a positive power in others' lives. Since education is a powerful weapon that enforces the youth in facing the problems and challenges of all times, the attention of HH the Emir to education and scientific research came to open the doors of opportunities which are unmatched in our surroundings and our world, she added. Addressing HH the Emir, the President of Qatar University said that before about a decade HH the Emir, entrusting her with great responsibility, which is giving to Qatar an integrated national university that brings up generations which can cope with, and even lead, the evolution in scientific, economic and social fields. She stressed that ever since efforts are underway to achieve a qualitative leap to make Qatar University an institution where education is integrates with scientific research and post-graduate studies. Dr. Al-Misned said that great development of the scientific research sector of the university was realized by the generous support committed by the State through Qatar National Research Fund. She added that the expansion in scientific research was associated with the expansion in post-graduate studies, where programs of PhD in engineering and environmental studies were developed for the first time in Qatar, noting that the ability of the university to award the highest academic degrees to students is a sign of the academic maturity and the prestigious level it has reached. Following the speech, HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani presented the outstanding students of the 2012 batch with the graduation certificates. (QNA)
