HE Qatar's Attorney General Addresses the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery

Doha, September 11 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Attorney General Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri who is also the UN Special Advocate on Stolen Asset Recovery ,has emphasized the prosecution of those responsible for steeling public asset. This came in his address at the opening session of the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery, which kicked off in Doha earlier Tuesday, with the participation of the G8, Deauville partners and a number of countries in the region. He pointed out that the forum is held at an important stage of the history of the Arab nation, on a case that exceeded the nation for the whole world to become morally, ethically and legally responsible for it. HE the Attorney General welcomed participants in the forum, wishing them all success. The three-day Forum aims to start a process that will develop in part into a regional network on the issue of asset recovery, through periodic meetings and other activities and to provide a stockpile of information, contacts and related good practices. It also aims to identify the needs for country-specific capacity building, providing regional capacity building to practitioners engaged in tracing, freezing, and recovering of corruption related proceeds in addition to encouraging G8, and regional countries to introduce policy changes and legislative-institutional changes needed to facilitate effective asset recovery. Deauville partnership with Arab countries is an international effort launched by the G8 leaders at their meeting in Deauville, France 2011 to support Arab countries in transition towards a free and democratic societies. It includes in addition to Qatar, Canada, Egypt, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, Britain and the United States.
