HE Qatar Prime Minister: Security Council's Handling of Syrian Crisis Unacceptable
Doha, December 09 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, the Chairman of the Arab Ministerial Committee on Syria, said that the way in which the Security Council is dealing with the Syrian crisis is unacceptable.
Addressing a meeting for the Committee on Sunday evening in Doha, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed hope that the ongoing meetings between the United States and the Federal Republic of Russia will reach a common understanding on what is going on in Syria so that the Security Council can shoulder its responsibilities towards the crisis in Syria.
He also hoped that the meetings being conducted by the joint UN/Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi with the five permanent members of the Security Council will bring about a common understanding for the implementation of the Arab and international resolutions, and an agreement to overthrow the Syrian regime and form a government of national unity.
"Since the Committee's previous meetings in Doha, we have been wishing to resolve the Syrian crisis in a friendly manner, but after all the bloodshed and devastation in Syria we have to stand up and say enough is enough and that power transition must take place," His Excellency pointed out.
The Syrian regime has waged this war against his own people for almost two years and the destruction is everywhere in Syria at a time when Arab efforts came to nothing in seeking to resolve the crisis, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani noted.
He said the Syrian regime has chosen the path of procrastination and has killed his own people and destroyed his country, adding that Bashar and his government must know that the situation and the result are clear, but how much it will cost them in term of killing and destruction to come to that end which could have been avoided two years ago. He stressed that the people will is hard to challenge.
He hoped that that those who invoked the crisis in Syria will use wisdom and logic to stop what is happening in their country immediately and enter into a process of transition to put an end to the bloodshed.
His Excellency also expressed his hope that the upcoming meeting on Syria in Morocco would culminate in more countries recognizing the new opposition body which was announced in Doha and in the subsequent meetings in Cairo that discussed the arrangements for the free armed forces and the formation of the general staff.
HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stressed on the importance of providing humanitarian aid for the Syrians inside Syria taking into consideration the scale of destruction and the situation of the people in Syria, saying that "urgent humanitarian relief must be provided in Syria and that a plan to assess the needed reconstructions in Syria should be made".
He stressed the necessity of finding out how to support Syria economically and politically in order help it stand up and overcome its current crisis. (QNA)
