EU Imposes New Sanctions on Syria

Doha, October 15 (QNA) - The European Union (EU) approved Monday a new round of sanctions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime. EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg agreed to a travel ban on 28 leading figures of the Syrian regime to the EU (27 countries), in addition to freezing their assets in these countries. The EU travel ban applies to 155 Syrian personalities until now. The Union also added two Syrian firms to the blacklist prohibiting holding companies or authorities at the EU from dealing with them. Airline company Syrian Europe Airlines will be hit by the new measures, according to diplomatic sources in Luxembourg. There are current sanctions by the EU against Syria, including banning the purchase of oil as well as the sale of arms and any materials that can be used by authorities against the Syrian people.
