'Doha Agreement Key to Darfur Peace'; Says DRA Chief
Khartoum, December 29 (QNA) - Head of Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) Al-Tijani Al-Sisi has reiterated that the peace process in Darfur has witnessed great leaps in 2012 that enhanced pillars of stability and paved the way for a comprehensive peace.
"We are moving at a steady pace to face the challenges and overcome them successfully. The most prominent achievement realized this year in the Darfur peace process comes in the security area, with stability prevailing throughout the region," Al-Sisi said Saturday.
He added that the major remaining challenge is the crossing of militant movements from South Sudan into Darfur to destabilize security and stability, but noted that this issue will addressed over the next year.
Al-Sisi pointed to the Doha Agreement, which, he says, has convinced militant movements to join the peace process after they could practically see the region achieve stability and the dialogue strategy adopted as a mechanism for solving problems.
He revealed a the regional authority's program for the next year, which will focus on moving ahead with the peace process at an increasing pace and work on adding more militant groups to the Doha Agreement, in addition to holding the Darfur reconstruction and development conference so as to continue the developmental path in the region.
DRA head said he is hopeful about the next year, stressing that it will witness great achievements in the peace process in the light of the clear progress made in the Doha Agreement. (QNA)
