DNA Samples Of Mayang's Parents Sent To Australia
Jakarta, Oct 9 (Antara) - National Police Chief Sutarman stated that the deoxyribose-nucleic acid (DNA) samples of Mayang Prasetyo`s parents have been sent to the Australian police for identification purposes.
"Their DNA samples have been taken and sent there (Australia)," Sutarman said on Thursday.
DNA identification was necessary to ensure that Mayang Prasetyo was from Indonesia.
"We want the DNA tests of the parents to ensure that Mayang Prasetyo was an Indonesian citizen," he noted.
The Indonesian police are not directly involved in the investigation.
"We are only helping with laboratory aspects," he said.
As for repatriating the corpse, he stated it will be done after the DNA tests.
"After the verification of her parents` DNA, Mayang`s body will be brought to Indonesia," he emphasized.
Mayang, an Indonesian transgender, was found dead in Australia on Saturday (October 4) night. She was allegedly killed by her husband Marcus Peter Volke, an Australian, at an apartment in Brisbane, Queensland.
Marcus killed himself by slitting his throat with a knife when police tried to catch him.
Marcus was from Ballarat and met Mayang while working as a chef on a cruise ship. They married in 2013 and moved to Brisbane.
They had been living in the apartment for three months.
