About 1.5 Million Internally Displaced Returned To The Liberated Areas

BAGHDAD / NINA / International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced the return of nearly 1.5 million displaced people to their liberated areas in a number of Iraq's provinces. A statement from the organization said that "during the spring and summer of 2016, the migrants began to return to liberated areas in Anbar province. In early February 2017, Anbar recorded the highest percentage of returnees, about 73,386 returnees baked to the districts of Anbar, including Fallujah, Ramadi, and Hit, and lesser in some areas in Salahuddin, including Shirqat and Tikrit. " The statement added that "one of the challenges faced by the returnees is the security, the militias, the dangers of unexploded ordnance, and the destruction of infrastructure, including housing and other private property." The head of the UN Mission for Migration in Iraq Thomas Weiss said, "The displaced people who have returned to their homes will need the full support of the humanitarian community. In cooperation with the Iraqi government and humanitarian partners, the International Organization for Migration provides to the Iraqis returnees a variety of mechanisms of support, including rehabilitation of shelter, livelihoods, non-food items, and surface infrastructure projects, to support their ability to restart their lives and provide assistance to their families.
