Secretary of State: US supports Azerbaijan’s goal of establishing Southern Gas Corridor

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 6 / Trend V.Zhavoronkova / The U.S. works closely with Azerbaijan on energy security and this is a common strategic interest for both countries and one of the global challenges of our time, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said a press conference in Baku. Clinton expressed her "great appreciation for the central role Azerbaijan plays in the effort to diversify oil and gas supplies as well as the routes through which they are transported. The US supports Azerbaijan's goal of establishing the Southern Gas Corridor for natural gas export - the crucial link that will solidify Azerbaijan's ties with Euro-Atlantic community and I look forward for even deeper cooperation in this area." The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It is designed to diversify the routes and sources of supply and thereby increase the energy security of the EU.
