Minister: Azerbaijan to invest $342 million in broadband Internet

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 19 / Trend, H.Veliyev /
The development of broadband Internet in Azerbaijan is the most ambitious task set before the country's Communications and IT Ministry, minister Ali Abbasov said at a meeting held jointly with the ruling New Azerbaijan Party on Tuesday.
He said by late 2012 it is planned to expand optic communication lines and bringing fibre optics to the end user.
A similar project is now being implemented in Turkey where it is planned to spend $35 billion for its implementation. Azerbaijan is also implementing a similar project, where there are plans to spend $342 million by 2015, Abbasov said.
He said the project is considered sufficiently profitable and in future it will allow a return on investments.
